This interview is with Thomas Famula, Professor Emeritus of Animal Science. He was appointed in 1981 and retired in 2016.
Tom’s research focussed on the statistical aspects of genetics and animal improvement. Initially it looked at cattle but recently concentrated on the inheritance of disease in dogs.
Tom taught Animal Science 1, a large General Education course, for many years and received the UC Davis Outstanding Teaching Award in 2000. Beloved by students, Tom and his wife Michelle, Director of Student Health Services, were named the Grand Marshalls of the 2018 Picnic Day Parade.
He is interviewed by his friend and colleague, Mary Delany, Professor Emerita of Animal Science.
