This interview is with Harris Lewin, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Evolution and Ecology. He accepted an appointment at UC Davis as Vice Chancellor for Research in 2011 and served in that capacity until 2016. He retired in 2022.
Harris’ research focused on mammalian genomics and genome evolution. Before joining UC Davis he was at the University of Illinois for 27 years. He won the Wolf Prize in Agriculture (2011) for his research in cattle genomics. He is a member of the National Academy of Science, the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry, and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received the Zhongguancun International Cooperation Award (Bejing 2021) and the Lowell Thomas Award for Conservation Genetics from the Explorers Club (New York City 2022). He continues to work on the Earth BioGenome Project.
