Note:
The virtual kettle built for this course has a steam trap on the jacket outlet. This design element allows for condensate to periodically drain from the jacket without letting steam escape.
The pilot plant unit uses a closed line off the kettle jacket because there is no steam trap at that position. With no steam trap to keep the steam from flowing out of the jacket continuously, the jacket has to be closed off. Eventually, the jacket fills with condensate during operation.
