This workshop series provides an introduction to using the open
source Python programming language for reproducible data analysis and
scientific computing. The focus of this workshop is programming basics
and working with tabular data. Along the way, you will learn a little bit
about how to break down programming problems and organize our code and
computational projects for clarity and reproducibility. This 3-day
intensive workshop series is offered by DataLab and graduate students
from the Davis Python User Group. As the material builds throughout the
series, attendance at all three sessions is required.
After this workshop, learners will be able to load tabular data sets
into Python, compute simple summaries and visualizations, do common
data-tidying tasks, write reusable functions, and identify where to go
to learn more.
Prerequisites: This training is designed to expose researchers with little to no
computational background to the open source Python coding language.
Familiar with command line is a bonus; at a minimum learners should be
able to navigate their file system to locate downloaded files and
software. Learners will need to bring their own laptop with WiFi connection, and should be able to download and install software.
