Mature roots: This tree is a Krymsk 86 variety of rooststock, a peach-plum cross. It was clonally propagated and 11 years old at the time it was harvested from a test orchard at UC Davis. Krymsk is a variety commonly used as a rootstock for cultivating almonds, which are grafted onto it. Ph.D. student Rachel Noon used her iPhone, the app 3-D Scanner and photogrammetry to digitally stitch together hundreds of still images to create this 3D video.
